How tall is Big Ben?
Big Ben is 2.2m high, yes that’s right only 7ft 2in! However you have not just discovered a conspiracy, I’m just being a pendant. ‘Big Ben’ is actually the nick name for the ‘Great Bell’ in the ‘Elizabeth Tower’ at the Houses of Parliament.
Elizabeth Tower is the structure that houses Big Ben (officially the ‘Great Bell’) and four smaller quarter bells, making a total of 5 bells that hang in the 96m high or 315ft cast iron and stone tower designed in the 1850’s by Augustus Pugin in the Neo-Gothic style.
OK I’m being a pendant. Everyone know’s that when you say Big Ben you mean the the tower, but the above is technically correct so feel free to annoy and infuriate others with your pedantic knowledge.
